“Like the coolness of snow at harvest time is a trustworthy messenger to those who send him; he refreshes the spirits of his masters”
(Proverbs 25: 13)
A few weeks ago, I had a refreshing of my spirit from a message from a faithful servant of the Lord. Lots of much more talented writers than me have written about the discouragement, often referred to as, “writer’s block” that writers experience. Mine was even worse than just not being able to write on a subject, I began to doubt if I should be writing at all! I felt I was failing the Lord somehow by not glorifying him through my weekly blog. I thought I should stop.
The message from God came in a beautiful, unexpected way. One of my readers, who I don’t know personally, only that she is a friend of one of my friends, contacted my friend to have lunch with her. This lady has experienced some deep sorrow in her life and my friend had forwarded one of my blogs to her. This sweet messenger wanted to thank me for the comfort of the words in the blog and sent home with my friend an exquisite orchid. When my friend delivered the orchid, I cried as I realised she was being used by the Lord to send me a message of “keep writing” I still look at the orchid in my living room and bless both the messengers and the Lord for sending it.
God’s word is often referred to as, the Message, and all those who have heard that beautiful message of love are commissioned to pass it on to others. The message is one of forgiveness, grace and mercy all bound together by love.
In the book of Acts, we read of when the apostles were jailed by the Sadducees, an angel of the Lord frees them and tells them;
“But during the night and angel of the Lord opened the doors of the jail and brought them out, “Go stand in the temple courts,” he said, “and tell the people the full message of this new life.” (Acts 5: 19 – 20)
Sometimes we are the recipient , as I was, for a message from the Lord, but often we are also called upon to be the messenger and it is important that we listen carefully when the Lord is prompting us to reach out to someone who is in desperate need to hear a word of encouragement, a refreshing of their spirit, a helping hand out of the pit of sorrow or despair, a hug of forgiveness.
One of my daughters was able to listen carefully to the Lord and pass on an uplifting message for my husband which he needed desperately during a medical crisis. When we immediately recognise a message is from God, the peace that passes all understanding floods our very being and her message brought us that peace.
It is an honour to be the Lord’s messenger and I love that old hymn that is a beautiful prayer asking God to consecrate our bodies for him to use and I particularly like this verse.
Take my voice and let me sing
Always only, for my King
Take my lips and let them be
Filled with messages from thee
Thank you, Michelle for such encouraging words
